Day 1
HACIENDA ZULETA
Built in the late 17th century, this charming Ecuadorian establishment is situated among the breathtaking Andes mountains. Close to the capital, Quito, Zuleta is a real working farm on an expansive 4000 acres (2000 hectares). It has been in the family of former Ecuador president Galo Plaza for over a century and was rated a "Top Ten Find" by Outside magazine. The Zuleta was also selected as one of the best Ecuador hotels by National Geographic Traveler.
The hotel contains 14 colonially decorated rooms, each with its own cozy fireplace. Quaint landscaping coupled with inviting living and reading rooms make for a serene environment. Hearty home-cooked cuisine is offered fresh daily, including plenty of local delights. Many of the meals even include ingredients fresh from the farm!
In addition to beautiful accommodations and good food, the warm and hospitable Hacienda Zuleta provides a medley of engaging things to see and do. Whether you opt to mountain bike the Andes, peruse the local craft shop, milk one of the dairy cows or check out the resident "pyramids", each day of stay at the authentic Hacienda Zuleta is sure to be fun-filled and full.
Day 2
HACIENDA CUSIN
Hacienda Cusín is an old-style 17th century mountain estate located high on the hills of Ecuador. With an intimate ambience and 38 friendly staff, the hotel is situated close to the airport and famous market town, Otavalo. Warm weather is more frequent than not thanks to the hacienda's close proximity to the equator.
All rooms and cottages feature an antique touch and come equipped with log-burning fireplaces, high ceilings and views of the gorgeous gardens. Each room is individually decorated with Andean-craft furnishings and includes a waiter-served breakfast every morning.
The Cusín offers a wide assortment of activities onsite to keep you busy and happy. With a film collection of more than 300 titles, a game room and even Spanish lessons at hand, you'll have more than enough to keep you occupied on days you choose to stay nearby. For those who wish to venture out, a variety of walks and tours can be booked directly at Reception.
